Rally Together with USA Volleyball High Performance

Looking for Monday Motivation?  Check this opportunity out!

One of the most exciting yet highly unknown opportunities offered to volleyball players by USA Volleyball is their High Performance Program.  This is not a camp, although there are excellent High Performance Camps available as well; this is a development program for launching region players into the National Pipeline and on an advanced Path to the Podium.

North Country Region is in the process of growing High Performance here in our Region, with the long term goal of forming North Country Region High Performance Teams which will compete against High Performance Teams from other Regions across the nation - giving our region players the opportunity to be evaluated on a national level - so exciting!

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the majority of girls' High Performance tryouts across the nation had to be canceled for this year.  The GREAT NEWS is that USA Volleyball has created an avenue for players to still tryout for High Performance this season!  Read on . . .

What is USA Volleyball High Performance?

Per the USA Volleyball website, "USA Volleyball High Performance encompasses identification, evaluation, training, development, and international competition across all three disciplines (beach, indoor and sitting) of volleyball, building a National Pipeline to the podium. The mission of High Performance is to identify, train and develop elite athletes and coaches to build a sustainable pipeline of future Olympians and Paralympians. High Performance bridges the gap between our Senior U.S. National Teams and high potential athletes.

The High Performance National Team “Pipeline” is for volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport and is intended to grow the pool of talented young players who may someday compete for a spot on the U.S. National and Olympic Teams."

In short, if you have big volleyball dreams, this is a program you want to explore!

How do I join the High Performance National Team Pipeline?

All athletes who wish to enter the HP National Team Pipeline must tryout in their region.  Due to the majority of the girls' HP tryouts across the nation being canceled, including those here in North Country Region, USA Volleyball is offering the unique opportunity to tryout for High Performance for both Indoor and Beach via video submission.  The ability to tryout for HP via video submission significantly discounts the cost of a High Performance tryout to only $75 (great news!); however, applicants still receive outstanding benefits from trying out for HP:
  • Receive written evaluation form from HP evaluators
  • Consideration for HP teams and programs
  • Your film will be stored in the HP's video database
If you are looking to advance your game to the next level, this is a great opportunity for you!  Now is the perfect time to use your downtime wisely while you #StayHome, put some film together, receive some valuable feedback from high-level evaluators, pursue your dreams and see what happens!  Details on how to submit your HP tryout can be found here: USAV High Performance Video Tryout Submission Process

Stay tuned for more information on North Country Region's High Performance Programs in the near future.

Rally Together with a Weekend Family Project!

It's Friday which means the weekend is here - yay!  This weekend how about spending some time on a fun family project - building a setter target that will provide hours of volleyball practice while we #StayHome.   I've heard a few great things about this particular target:  Relatively simple and inexpensive to build on your own Target basket is adjustable to different heights and angles Not too heavy to move and transport   Families who have used the below plans to create a target have tailored them to their specific needs - one following the plans exactly and one varying slightly the target shape and adding a net (see Hally's video above).  Both devices work well for their individual purposes.   The plans are even simple enough for players to help build themselves with a little supervision!   Shalyn building her own setter target! "Measure twice, cut once!" And here's the finished product in action . . . .  The plan

Rally Together with a New Weekend Family Project!

TGIF!  Looking forward to the weekend, and no better way to spend the weekend than another fun family volleyball project!  Just like the last project we posted ( a Setter Target ), this rebound board will provide hours and hours of volleyball fun and valuable reps!  The plans for this particular rebound board were created by engineer by day/volleyball dad by night and weekend, Greg Samson, who graciously agreed to share them with all of us!  These plans include diagrams and detailed instruction, making them easy to follow, and the board itself is made to last.  This is definitely a volleyball project worth investing time and effort into building.   The rebound board can be used by one or more players as demonstrated in the videos below.  Using the board with the Setter Target is a great way to get setting reps off of a "live" ball - it's about as realistic as we can get right now!   A genuine "thank you" to Greg for not only creating these plans but also for sh

Rally Together with Thursday Technical Training - This One's for You, Setters!

Today marks our final Thursday Technical Training post, and we've saved an important one for last - this one's for you, Setters!  Making time to get those reps in daily will elevate your level of play and finding that rhythm and consistency will put you a step ahead of your competition.  Grab your volleyball and check out some of these setter training videos:  Setter U shared a challenging Setter Medicine Ball Warm-Up   on their Instagram feed.  If you're a setter, definitely give them a follow - the Setter U Instagram page is loaded with tips, inspiration and training ideas - some of which include the following training tools we've posted about here on our Rally Together blog: Rebound Board & Setter Target !
